Yesterday started of as normal, for breakfast we stopped off at Pret and then walked down the East side of town to visit the United Nations. Along the way we saw quite a few buildings you may be familiar with.
We saw the Chrysler Building along the way.

Skyscrapers and building details.
This building looked like it was covered in pressed metal
This is Grand Central Station.
You can't tell from these photos but it is one of the busiest railway stations in the world and therefore quite an opportunity for someone if they wanted to do something terrible - there were police in every corner and not just any old police - they had Counter Terrorism badges across their shirts and carried automatic guns across their chest. Also there were multiple groups of army all around the station as well. This was one heavily guarded building. We didn't stay very long here.
This is the Daily News Lobby with its revolving globe beneath them. This is where Christopher Reeve played superman - I couldn't find any phone booth for him to change into his superhero costume tho... at least not there...however...
Inside the NY Public library was a different story

Back to the morning and visiting the United Nations. There is lots of security there so you have to be checked in across the road at the visitors centre first where they need photo ID, etc Dad was our designated responsible family representative (they obviously haven't seen him at New Years Eve like I have). We each we got a sticker/label to put on our top before we moved on to the security checkpoint across the road. After we passed the checkpoint we moved deeper into the building where I found a virtual exhibit about refugees and then moved onto the main desk where we picked up our tickets. We soon were called up to the tour line where our group moved up and around the main buildings of the UN. Whilst there we saw the international gifts to the UN as well as different chambers for different purposes(most of the chambers were designed by scandinavian countrys e.g. the security council room was decorated by Norway and the Treaty room by Sweden), finally we saw the General Assembly hall - which I am sure you will recognised from the News.

Loving your photos Joseph you are such a long way up in your hotel room!! You put together a fabulous blog with a perfect ending- I could imagine you all getting on the train and going whew! Did we really see and do all that. Love the photos - especially those of you in the UN. How amazing to actually see and be in such historic places. You'll have to visit our Treaty House at Waitangi to see NZs founding doc too, a very different experience. Keep these blogs and photos coming we love them.... And you guys too!
